春から秋にかけて庄内浜に出現する有櫛動物で、長期飼育は難しい。

長い２本の触手には「刺胞」ではなく、粘着性の「膠胞（こうほう）」を持ち、延縄のように枝糸を出して効率よく小型の甲殻類等を捕まえ食べる。

This comb jelly appears on Shonai Beach in front of Kamo Aquarium from spring to autumn and is difficult to keep in captivity long-term.
Its two long tentacles bear adhesive “colloblasts” rather than “nematocysts,” and it extends branch tentacles to efficiently capture and consume small crustaceans and other prey.

傘径１ｍｍに満たないクラゲ。北海道の室蘭水族館より頂いた。ポリプはオベリアクラゲの仲間の中では大型で、ツリーのような形をしている。そこから粉雪のような小さなクラゲが無数に遊離する。

 

This species with a bell diameter less than 1 mm.

This jellyfish was kindly provided by Muroran Aquarium in Hokkaido.

Its polyps are large among Obelia jellyfish, forming a tree-like shape.

From there, countless tiny jellyfish detach like powdered snow.

本州から九州に分布する。刺激を与えると発光するが、オワンクラゲほど明瞭ではない。

「灯ともし」という意味で名前が付けられたと思われる。

オワンクラゲに似ているが、本種は触手が８～１５本と少ないため、明確に区別できる。

 

This species is distributed from Honshu to Kyushu.

It emits light when stimulated, though not as distinctly as the Aequorea coerulescens.

Its Japanese name likely derives from the meaning “lighted lamp.”

It resembles the Aequorea coerulescens, but this species can be clearly distinguished by having fewer tentacles, typically 8 to 15.

傘径１５ｍｍほどのクラゲ。

東北以北の北日本に分布し、春に見られることが多い。

８本の生殖腺は鮮やかな山吹色をしていて、海で見かけても良く目立つ。

当館では繁殖も行っているが、野生個体の大きさまでは育てられていない。

 

This species has a cap diameter of about 15 mm.
It is distributed in northern Japan, north of Tohoku, and is often seen in spring.
Its eight reproductive gills are a vivid golden yellow, making it highly conspicuous even when encountered at sea.
While we breed them at our aquarium, we have not yet succeeded in raising them to the size of wild specimens.
