特に沖合からの微風が吹き波が静かなときは水面に多く観察できる。

ポリプ世代を持たないクラゲで一生浮遊生活を送る。

触手の数は４本で長く、傘の中心から伸びているものが口。

透明感がありとても目立たない。近年分子系統解析の結果、硬クラゲ目から淡水クラゲ目に変更された。

 

From spring to autumn, it can commonly be seen at Shonai Beach in front of Kamo Aquarium.

It is particularly observable on the water surface when a light offshore breeze blows and the waves are calm.

This jellyfish lacks a polyp stage and spends its entire life in a free-floating state.

They has four long tentacles, with the one extending from the center of the bell serving as the mouth.

It is translucent and very inconspicuous.

Recent molecular phylogenetic analysis has reclassified it from the order Trachymedusae to the order Limnomedusae.

名前の通り黒い眼点を持つが、眼点は小さくて肉眼では見えない。

東北地方沿岸から北海道に分布し、春に見られることが多い。北大西洋や北極海にも分布する。

庄内浜では春に出現するクラゲの代表。

シロクラゲに似ているが、口柄が傘からはみ出さないくらい短いため、容易に見分けることができる。

 

The Japanese name of this species refers to its black eye spots, though these spots are too small to be seen with the naked eye.

It is distributed from the coastal areas of the Tohoku region to Hokkaido and is most commonly seen in spring. It is also found in the North Atlantic and Arctic Ocean.

It is a representative jellyfish appearing in spring at Shonai Beach in front of Kamo Aquarium.

This species resembles the Eutonina indicans, but it can be easily distinguished because its manubrium is so short that it does not protrude beyond the bell.

本種は早春に見られる代表的なクラゲである。

本州から九州の沿岸に分布するが、山形での出現は稀である。

傘の縁に多数ある赤い点は眼点と呼ばれる器官で、光を感じることができる。

受精卵は採れるのだが、ポリプに変態させることが非常に困難で未だ繁殖に成功した人はいない。

多数の触手が髪の毛のように見えることが名前の由来。

体からはキュウリのような臭いがする。

 

This species is a representative jellyfish seen in early spring.
It is distributed along the coasts from Honshu to Kyushu, but its appearance in Yamagata is rare.
The numerous red dots on the edge of the bell are organs called ocelli, which can sense light.
Although fertilized eggs can be collected, transforming them into polyps is extremely difficult, and no one has yet succeeded in breeding them.
Its Japanese name originates from the numerous tentacles that resemble hair.
Its body emits a cucumber-like odor.

庄内浜には夏～秋に多く出現し、時に大量発生する。体側には、有櫛動物特有の８列の櫛板列があり、光を反射し綺麗に光る。この櫛板列は、体の上の方からド ミノ倒しのように規則正しく動き、泳ぐための推進力を得ることが出来る。 学名のmikadoは帝が頭にかぶるカブトに似ていることが由来と言われている。当館では本種の累代繁殖に成功している。

 

Shonai Beach in front of Kamo Aquarium sees frequent appearances of this species from summer to autumn, sometimes in large numbers. Its body sides feature eight rows of comb plates characteristic of comb jellies, which reflect light beautifully.
These comb plates move in a regular, domino-like pattern from the upper body down, generating the propulsive force needed for swimming.
Its scientific name, mikado, is said to derive from its resemblance to the helmet worn by the Emperor.
Our aquarium has successfully achieved successive generations of breeding for this species.
