庄内浜ではお盆過ぎに現れ、海水浴で刺されることが多い。

刺されるとミミズ腫れの症状になることがある。庄内浜では「イラ」と呼ばれている。

日本各地に広く分布し、夏にクラゲに刺された時はこのクラゲが原因であることが多い。

感覚器に網膜を備えたレンズ眼を持つが、脳がないため画像処理はできないと考えられる。

 

At Shonai Beach in front of Kamo Aquarium, they appear after the Obon season (About August) and frequently sting humans swimming in the sea.
Being stung by this jellyfish can cause symptoms like welts. At Shonai Beach, it’s called “Ira.”
Widely distributed throughout Japan, this jellyfish is often the cause when stung by jellyfish in summer.
They possess lens eyes, but since they lack a brain, it’s thought they cannot process images.
