初夏に北海道で見られる。

近縁種のカミクラゲは8か所から多数の触手を伸ばすが、本州は傘の縁から均等に伸ばす。

カミクラゲと同様、触手を伸ばして漂う姿が美しい。

本種も生活史は不明で、ポリプは未発見である。

 

This species is found in Hokkaido during early summer.
The closely related species, the Japanese jellyfish, extends numerous tentacles from eight points, while the Honshu jellyfish extends them evenly from the bell margin.
Like Spirocodon saltatrix, its appearance drifting with extended tentacles is beautiful.

The life history of this species is also unknown, and polyps have not been discovered.
