刺胞毒が非常に強く、「電気クラゲ」と呼ばれることもある。庄内浜では見られない。大きな気泡体で海面に浮き、その下に栄養体や生殖体が垂下する群体を形成する。

長期飼育が難しく、様々な水族館が試行錯誤しながら展示飼育に挑戦している。

 

This species possesses extremely potent nematocyst venom and is sometimes called the “electric jellyfish.”

It is not found at Shonai Beach.

It floats on the sea surface with a large gas bladder, forming colonies where nutritional and reproductive bodies hang down beneath it.
Long-term captivity is difficult, and various aquariums are attempting to exhibit and maintain them through trial and error.
