北里大学と新江ノ島水族館の調査チームが、岩手県沖の深海の調査のため空き缶を回収して調べたところポリプが発見された。

当館はこのポリプを譲り受け、共同で日本初展示を行った。

口がナデシコの花のように見えることが和名の由来。

 

A research team from Kitasato University and the Enoshima Aquarium discovered polyps while collecting and examining discarded cans during a deep-sea survey off the coast of Iwate Prefecture.
My aquarium received these polyps and jointly presented Japan’s first exhibition of them.
The japanese name originates from its mouth resembling a dianthus flower.
