傘は縦長の直方体に近い形をしており、長頭の七福神である「福禄寿」に似ていることが名前の由来である。南方系の種であり、海外ではハワイやオーストラリア、カリブ海に分布し、刺傷被害をもたらすことで問題視されている。福山大学マリンバイオセンター水族館、新江ノ島水族館、九十九島水族館と共に繁殖個体の世界同時初展示を行った。

 

The bell-shaped coral resembles a tall rectangular prism and is named for its resemblance to Fukurokuju, the long-headed deity among the Seven Lucky Gods. As a southern species, it is distributed overseas in Hawaii, Australia, and the Caribbean, where it is problematic due to causing stinging injuries. It was exhibited for the first time worldwide alongside breeding specimens at Fukuyama University Marine Bio Center Aquarium, Enoshima Aquarium, and Kujukushima Aquarium.
