古くから日本でよく知られているクラゲだが、実は未記載種であることが発覚し、２０２１年に新種記載された。

本種の新種記載に関しては、当館も共同研究として参加した。

成長したアルテミアを与えると大きく育つ。

「ギヤマン」とは、オランダ語で「ガラスのように透明」という意味を持つ。

 

Although this jellyfish has long been well known in Japan, it was discovered to be an undescribed species and was formally described as a new species in 2021.
My aquarium also participated in the collaborative research for the description of this new species.
It grows large when fed adult Artemia.
“Giyaman” means “transparent like glass” in Dutch.
