パラオ共和国メケルカル島のクリアレイクにて採集された。

外海に生息するタコクラゲと共通の祖先が、海水湖形成された一万年前に取り残され、独自の進化を始めたと考えられる。

外海のタコクラゲと比べて形態に違いが見られる。

 

This species was collected from Clear Lake on Mecherkar Island, Republic of Palau.
It is thought that a common ancestor with Mastigias sp. inhabiting the open sea became isolated when the lake formed as a saltwater lake 10,000 years ago and began its own unique evolution.
Differences in morphology can be observed compared to Mastigias papua in the open sea.
