傘径：～60cm以上

傘径が60cm以上にもなる大型のクラゲ。日本では有明海に分布し、中国沿岸にも出現する。

ビゼンクラゲと種類が一緒だとされているが、これは誤同定だと考えれている。

最高級の食用クラゲとしてあつかわれていて、有明海では漁業の対象となっており、アカクラゲと称され魚屋で販売されている。

 

A large jellyfish with a bell diameter exceeding 60 cm.

It is distributed in Japan’s Ariake Sea and also appears along the Chinese coast.
It is considered to be the same species as Rhopilema asamushi, but this is thought to be a misidentification.
It is treated as a top-grade edible jellyfish and is a target of fishing in the Ariake Sea. It is sold in fish markets under the name “red jellyfish.”
