主に大西洋沿岸に生息するクラゲ。

繁殖力が強く、餌の動物プランクトンを大量に捕食してしまうため、被害が大きい。

日本では生態系に害を及ぼす恐れがある「侵入予防外来種」に指定されている。

当館でも海に流出しないようにしっかりと管理している。

当館が日本初展示となったクラゲである。

 

A jellyfish primarily inhabiting the Atlantic coast.

Its strong reproductive capacity and massive consumption of zooplankton prey cause significant damage.
In Japan, it is designated as an “prevention of alien species invasion” posing a risk to ecosystems.

My aquarium also carefully manages it to prevent escape into the ocean.
This jellyfish was first exhibited in Japan at my aquarium.
