インド・太平洋域の熱帯に分布し、ハワイや大西洋にも移入により広まっているため、問題視されている。

日本のタコクラゲと比べ、傘にある斑点が多く、体内に褐虫藻が共生している。

プンクタータはラテン語で点状という意味。

ナンヨウタコクラゲと呼ばれることがある。

 

This species is distributed in the tropical regions of the Indo-Pacific and has spread to Hawaii and the Atlantic through introduction, making it a subject of concern.
Compared to the Japanese octopus jellyfish, it has more spots on its bell and harbors symbiodinium within its body.
Punctata means “spotted” in Latin.
It is sometimes called the Southern Ocean octopus jellyfish in Japanese name.
