シェーンブルン動物園からポリプを譲り受け、日本で初めて繁殖させた。

成長すると傘の縁がすみれ色に色づき、傘径60ｃｍ程まで大きくなるが、まれに90cm程にもなる。英名ではBarrel jellyfish（樽のクラゲ）と呼ばれる。

 

We received polyps from Schönbrunn Zoo and successfully bred them for the first time in Japan.
As they mature, the edges of their bell turn violet, and they grow to a bell diameter of about 60 cm, though rarely reaching up to 90 cm. They are known in English as Barrel jellyfish.
