沖縄で発見され、2017年に名前が付けられたクラゲ。傘径は５㎜ほどである。夜行性で昼間はじっとしていて、夜になると泳ぎだす。

触手の先端が三線を弾く指の形に見えるので、学名に『サンシン』の名がつけられた。

本種はクラゲ芽をつくらない。

 

This species was discovered in Okinawa and named in 2017.
Its bell diameter is about 5 mm. It is nocturnal, remaining still during the day and swimming at night.

The tips of its tentacles resemble fingers playing the sanshin, hence the inclusion of ‘sanshin’ in its scientific name.
This species does not produce jellyfish buds.
